Walk in closet organization with organization

Last week, we brought in Jenny Deitch and her team at Getting it Done Organizing to organize our wardrobe. She and her team finished for a day and a half and it was an amazing difference by the time they left! I can’t express enough how different it is now! It really creates order and changes the way you use your space.

Walk in Closet Organization Hacks

Get everything out of the closet

The first thing the organizing team did to get it done was to pull everything out of our wardrobe. In order to create a system, they had to pull everything out and evaluate the space we were working with. They even cleaned and dusted the shelves. The team shared that this is the best time to clean up because other than moving, chances are your closet will be pretty empty!

Purge unwanted or unnecessary items

Then, the Getting it Done Organizing team had me run through the items in piles to sanitize anything I haven’t worn in a while. They even donated everything for us so we didn’t have them in our house for the next 4 months. Is anyone else procrastinating taking donations? I kept some great items that I wanted to resell on The Real Estate or Poshmark.

Create order and fill the closet

The Getting it Done Organizing team then divided our items into piles of like items so they could see what categories we had and decide where in the wardrobe would be the best place to live. It took some trial and error, but through my counseling they came up with a great system where I could see what I had and quickly find everything I needed. What’s more, the system creates a simple way to exchange items after we’ve done laundry, bought something new, or worn an item of clothing.

On top of organizing our wardrobe, Jenny and her team surprised us by reorganizing the wardrobe in the hallway. It was so unexpected, and they made it look better than I could ever imagine! I love shoe racks and shelves, they display my shoes nicely and everything has a place now. I’m also a big fan of clear shoe boxes for holding some heels I don’t wear regularly and keeping shelves stocked with easy-to-grab items like my socks.

What is a wardrobe organization hack?

Matching hangers and coordinating boxes. That’s it, this is the hack! Matching hangers make a huge difference in our closets. While the entire system is instrumental in keeping us organized, from a visual standpoint, it’s the hangers that make the biggest difference.

I use our guest room closet to hold off-season clothes, and they also switched out those hangers, so come spring, I’ll easily be able to swap out those!

Achievement Organizing Team

I can’t say enough good things about the Getting it Organizing team, they were so nice and fast, and they got it done! The team was very nice and a pleasure to have in our home. They were very respectful of our budget and used items we already had where they could. They even worked for us when Kale refused the velvet hangers! Apparently, it’s common for men to want to keep plastic hangers around, so we’ve given up on the thin plastic hangers. I was so grateful for their work and the difference they made to our home was amazing. Our new closet systems are perfect for us and really work for the way we live in our home.

Our shelves are the Ikea Pax System. We might eventually add an accessory drawer, but the shelves are great as-is.
