I’ve been listening to songs with the word “sunshine” in the title all morning. No particular reason other than it’s sunny outside today in my neck of the woods (Marin County), and the temperature is in that sweet spot where it’s warm enough to go outside in jeans and a T-shirt. it is very beautiful!
If it can always be a little warm but not too hot – maybe I’ll have to move to Hawaii for this? I’m still showing off that one-story home in Kailua with a white picket fence and pink roses. very funny!
Anyway, if you have your own playlist, add these three bright songs.
Sunshine on me

I have a pocket full of sunshine
While we’re on the topic of sunscreen, I recently discovered the wonderful world of korean sunscreen. They’ve been getting a lot of buzz among online dermatology and skincare enthusiasts, and now I see why they have such a devoted fan base.
I have three meows in my arsenal: Innisfree Daily UV Defense Sunscreen SPF 36, Laneige Hydro UV Defense SPF 50+, and Etude House Sunprise Mild Watery Light SPF 50+.
Side note, all of these brands are owned by Amore Pacific, and I write for Innisfree and Laneige.
Some quick thoughts…
Innisfree Daily UV Defense Sunscreen SPF 36
The tube size is decent and you get a good amount for $16. While all three sunscreens have a hydrating and light texture when compared to american sunscreens, this one is relatively thick compared to the other two and is not as moisturizing. You don’t feel weightless like the others, for sure. I wish the SPF was higher, but if I work from home, this does the trick. Oh, and that’s more sunscreen-y scent. I like it enough, but I probably won’t buy another bottle.
LANEIGE Hydro UV Defense Sunscreen SPF 50+
Oh my God, so good that I just put a huge poop in my pram! Absolutely beautiful, and very similar to the Shiseido sunscreen I’ve used and loved for years, but even better because it’s more moisturizing and feels lighter on my skin. I love that I can reapply it throughout the day, and it doesn’t feel heavy or sticky. Layers under makeup, too. I don’t mind the light and the floral scent either. Beautiful dewy finish that’s not too shiny. My dry skin loves it. By the way, it is now for sale on the Laneige website.
Etude Sunprise Mild Watery Light SPF 50+
Believe it or not, this was a Mother’s Day gift from El Hub and Connor! I love him too. It is the lightest and thinnest in texture out of the three, almost like a gel, and melts into my skin. Like Lanig, it’s a pleasure to re-submit. Now, it’s not as intensely hydrating as Laneige, but it should suffice if your skin isn’t overly dry. The smell is somewhat lemony and refreshing. very light. The perfect summer sunscreen for very hot days! You can find it on Amazon.
The last bit is related to the sun’s rays. Cookbooks make my heart sing, and here’s the latest edition for my library.
So, I’ve never made Korean food before, and I feel intimidated by all the elements that go into a Korean meal. Apparently, there are a lot of side dishes! While I live for a bunch of side dishes, especially those with vegetables or various fried dumplings etc., I don’t know if I could handle a complete Korean meal with all the ingredients on my own. There seems to be a lot to reconcile with!
Have you cooked Korean food before? Where should you start?
Friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
