The designs of this collection are inspired by the garments worn in the 15th and 17th centuries in Europe. Maria Grazia Chiuri brought those periods she imagined to life with her fashion sense and creative eye, making them modern again without losing any of their timeless qualities.
This year’s show seemed like no other as it featured a host of unique collections that immediately caught our attention thanks in large part to their meticulously designed designs with rich textures like velvet, mantelas, etc. But also how effortlessly chic everyone looked while wearing them. Christian Dior
We were greeted by a model wearing nothing but a quintessential 21st century futuristic dress as she walked down the runway. When the light broke, we saw that period paintings from the 15th century on their walls and white panties covering what they were wearing in those days – it brought these characters a lot closer to us while also allowing us to reimagine them wearing Dior clothes!
After seeing the corset trends presented at Milan Fashion Week, Maria Grazia Chiuri didn’t fall for the idea of creating the reinvented corset/fencing wheel for Christian Dior lines. The design is adapted from the style of the 1950s, giving the waistline on coats and dresses exquisite details such as sheer panels or lace with buckles inspired by vintage belts.
I must say this is one of the most beautiful sets I’ve seen. The silhouettes are just as good, and they’re all at once flattering – perfect for any occasion! One thing worth noting: All those embroideries on the antique collars look very modern, too; You can’t go wrong with something too cute if your goal is to dress chic and flirty. I really love how these items are designed because they not only match my personal taste (glamorous but still demure).
This collection was a huge hit with its subtle Italian touch, but I think we can all still find our beloved Christian Dior identity. The stripes are there and so is his unmistakable gray color – he’s just that kind of wardrobe!
